Why You Should Invest Today

| |

I opened my eyes to the tune of typical. Another typical day. Meals to make. Dishes to wash. House to clean. Laundry to fold.

A day I’ve done many times before. A day easy to set my soul on auto-pilot. Except today, God whispered something exciting: “Don’t let this day get away. I’m at work in you and around you. Today counts!”

And my thoughts drifted to the greatest king of Israel, King David – and his days in the fields with his sheep. Surely God set the heart of a king in that young, shepherd boy. I wonder if David ever questioned his lowly work in the fields … if he ever begrudged it thinking, I’m better than this.

Scripture shows he didn’t. Instead, he used that time to seek God and allowed God to weave the fabric of a king into his being. The Bible tells of David’s run-ins in the fields. How he protected his sheep, yet also nurtured them. How David’s strong hands defeated lions and bears, yet how his gentle touch gained the trust of his flock.

This is the day the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.” Psalm 118:24 (HCSB)

In the forgotten fields, God taught David. Do you feel forgotten today? God might just be up to something. Carving a heart like His. Equipping with skills for the open door around the corner. Creating the character you’ll need to complete His call on your life.

Will you trust Him and invest in today? Give everything you have to everything in front of you, no matter how simple it seems. Wake each morning with a song in your soul knowing today is not just another day, today is a day the LORD has made and He has a purpose for it.

Let’s Talk! What will you do different today knowing Jesus is at work in your life?
