A Prayer to Help You Remember God is With You
I watched a movie a few weeks ago about a man who found a box of abandoned kittens … stay with me, I’m going somewhere with this.
The man had no idea what to do with all of the kittens, so he set out to find help. As he walked down the street he met two friends and began to tell them his dilemma. As he and one of the ladies worried about what to do with the kittens, the other lady, interrupted. “Hello,” she said, “I’m a vet!”
She had listened to them try to figure out how to help the kittens, all the while she stood right there, completely capable and available to help.
It reminds me of how I respond to God sometimes. I worry about my circumstances and churn through my thoughts trying to come up with the best way to handle whatever I’m facing. All the while, God is right there with me, ready, capable, and willing.
In Psalm 63, King David wrote, “I lie awake thinking of you, meditating on you through the night. Because you are my helper, I sing for joy in the shadow of your wings” (Psalm 63:6-7).
King David penned these words in the wilderness, on the run from a vast army led by his own rebellious son. If there were ever a moment to be up at night worrying, this would be it. But, David didn’t lie awake at night for the reasons we’d expect.
Instead of fearing for his life or devising a plan of escape, he couldn’t stop thinking about God.
If you’re facing circumstances that seem out of control today, here’s a prayer to help you remember God is with you, for you, and at work all around you:
Dear God, I want my thoughts to swirl with praises to You instead of churn with anxiety over what is going on around me. Help me shift my thoughts to the richness of Your presence and provision. As I do, help me rest in Your goodness and grace. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
