When You Feel Like You Don’t Have Enough Time {and a special invitation}

Are you in or near Texas? I’d love to see you next week at the She Laughs Conference! Scroll to the bottom for more details.

What do I have to do today?

It’s often the first question that crosses my mind when I open my eyes in the morning. And often – the question that follows it is, How will I get it all done?

I have a day planner that stays open in my kitchen. A calendar on the wall and on my computer. I also jot down notes of things to do on my phone so I can record them later on a calendar … all in an effort to juggle the daily demands of life.

Then, at the end of the day I crawl into bed and think of all the things I meant to do but didn’t do and wonder if I’ll ever make it to the bottom of the list.

But what if we let our time limits work for us instead of against us?

Instead of wrestling with our perceived lack of time, what if we embraced it and let it lead us into a year lived intentionally? Time limits are a reality for you, me and every other person living on earth. Our years are made up of months made up of weeks made up of days. The only difference between us is how we choose to spend those days. So as we turn the tables on time, let’s look at 2 ways we can use time limits to our advantage.

Time limits can push us to prioritize.

When we’re given just a few minutes or hours to work with, let’s allow it to expose the most important things. Let everything else takes its place as less important and focus on what really matters. Then, we can live no longer distracted by our list of things to do but singularly focused on the one thing that matters most.

Time limits can free us to say no.

When faced with tight time limits, we can let it lead us to draw clear boundary lines. We can choose to guard our time and effort when we acknowledge it’s not a renewable resource.

As we consider the time limits of our lives today, let’s also remember the one promised place of activity that matters,

Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.” 1 Corinthians 15:58

There is enough time in this day to accomplish God’s purposes for this day.

The work of the Lord is never futile or without purpose. It is the one work we can count on to be worth it. And we can count on God to make enough space in our day to accomplish what He has planned for that day.

I’ll leave you with a prayer short enough to whisper when you wake up and say again over and over throughout each day.

Lord, I surrender to Your will and Your way. Help me be faithful today, and align my desires to match Your direction. In Jesus’ name, amen.
