Wednesday Work Out: Body Presence
“… continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling,” Philippians 2:12
Some days people bug me.
I love people … most of the time. But some days, for some reasons, people drive me to my tipping point and I think hermit’s are on to something.
It’s easier to go it alone, I think.
You side step opinions and unsolicited input. You skip potential judgement and pass the inevitable test of patient.
But, I fear we miss a lot more than that when we cut off our community.
We need each other.
A few years ago I learned a football strategy called “body presence.”
A typical game plan calls for one big guy on offense to take on one big guy on defense. But there are some big guys in the NFL on another level. Their size and ability supercede even the best. One man cannot handle an opponent of that magnitude alone.
Body presence brings another man into a position to help. Blocking may not be his job. It may not even be his strength, but when you introduce this strategy into a game plan, the player assigned to block the giant grows more confident.
Knowing someone has your back can change the way you play.
Some brilliant football mind probably lays claim to this concept. But when I read God’s Word I see He used it first. The Creator made Adam, and Eve.
He called Moses but gave him Aaron. He formed a plan to give His disciples body presence. He calls it the church.
And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.” Hebrews 10:24-25 (NIV)
We need each other.
