Pay Attention to This Warning
My heart beat a little faster as I realized the truth about my situation.
I needed fuel and couldn’t find any.
Yes, the “low fuel” warning light lit up miles ago. Yes, I saw it. Yes, I acknowledged it, and yes, I ignored it.
I’ve even built a bit of a reputation for waiting until the very last second to stop for gas, but so far I’d never run dry. This time, with six little people in the back, I wondered if my luck might run out.
My friend in the passenger seat noticed me tighten my grip on the wheel and squirmed up in her seat. Maybe two pairs of eyes could keep us off the side of the highway?
During this extra-busy season I wonder if we don’t ignore some spiritual warning lights.
While we hurry and scurry God’s Spirit alerts us we’re nearing empty. Tensions rise. Smiles fade. Compassion crumbles. Headaches. Oh, the headaches.
We all have our unique warning lights, and if you’re like me, you acknowledge that warning. You know it’s time to stop and fill up.
But sometimes it seems futile to pull over.
There’s always a place to go, a mission to accomplish, or an errand to run. And stopping to refuel feels like a waste of time.
I can make it, we reason. There’s plenty in the tank to get me there.
But, can I urge you today? Pay attention to your spiritual fuel gage. Heed its warning.
We don’t know what each day holds. We don’t know how far down the road the next fuel station might be. Let’s not assume we do and get caught broken down on the side of the road somewhere.
God sees what’s next. He knows what we need and how to equip us for the things ahead. If only we’ll pay attention when the Light alerts us.
Now may the God of peace–who brought up from the dead our Lord Jesus, the great Shepherd of the sheep, and ratified an eternal covenant with his blood–may he equip you with all you need for doing his will. May he produce in you, through the power of Jesus Christ, every good thing that is pleasing to him. All glory to him forever and ever! Amen.” Hebrews 13:20-21 (NLT)
As the last drops of gasoline dripped out of the tank we found salvation. I’ve never been more excited to see a gas station in all my life. And when I pulled away with a full tank of gas my heart felt very different than when we arrived. Whew! Much better.
If you’re nearing empty tonight, fuel up, sister, and find rest for your soul.
Let’s Talk! What are you spiritual “low fuel” lights?
