Who Cares?

How big of a deal does something have to be to get God’s attention? What parts of my life are important enough to turn God’s head my way?

Say, I need a new car. Does that count?

Or what if I need work boots. Who cares? …..

Luke drove home from a long day at work. The 6-lane road buzzed with cars racing to their destination. Luke made a few calls and complained about the slow moving folks in front of him – a typical day’s drive home. He pulled up to a red light and stopped. But while he waited his eyes caught a man standing under a tree across the road.

Knock, knock. Luke heard it. The holy knock from God saying, “I have a job for you.”

Several blocks out of the way and one u-turn later, Luke pulled up next to the man. He wore dirty jeans and worn out shoes. He carried a backpack on his back and held a sign: “Any help is a blessing.”

“I drove by and saw you standing there. God told me to come back here and give this to you,” Luke said as he held out all the money in his wallet. “He wants you to know He’s going to take care of you.”

The man reached out his hand as tears filled his eyes.

“You don’t have any idea,” he said as his voice began to raise. “I can go buy some work boots now. I’ve got a job! I’ve got a job!”

Then Luke watched that man walk across the highway – his hands raised to the heavens shouting for joy – much like something we see on Sundays at the Superdome. He didn’t need the sign anymore. His needs had been met. When he reached the other side of the road the man fell to his knees. Right there, this man fell on his face in the grass overwhelmed by the hand of God that reached down and met him under a tree on a busy highway.

Who cares? God does.

Casting the whole of your care [all your anxieties, all your worries, all your concerns, once and for all] on Him, for He cares for you affectionately and cares about you watchfully.” 1 Peter 5:7 (AMP)

With His affection He wants to hold you, encourage you, and love you. With His watchful eye He wants to provide for you, prepare you, and point the way. He cares about houses. He cares about football. He cares about sickness. He cares about work boots.

He cares about you and the whole of your care.
