3 Thanksgiving Prayers For You

I held her on my hip as I picked up things around the room. When I paused for a moment my baby girl wiggled with delight. I looked up to see what all of the fuss was about and found my girl gazing in the mirror. She had spotted herself, and loved what she saw!

She kicked and cooed and smiled. I giggled, and so did she. And I realized the purity of that moment.

My little girl didn’t measure herself against the cover of a magazine or inspect for imperfections. The idea to compare and contrast herself to something else never crossed her mind. She simply saw her face and smiled.

When you look in the mirror do you smile? Better yet, do you rejoice?

This Thanksgiving day as we list all we’re thankful for, let’s thank God not just for what He’s done for us, but also for what He’s done in us and through us. Let’s do our very best to shed all of the labels lathered across our reflection and receive the truth of who we are in Christ.

With this in mind, here are 3 Thanksgiving prayers to help get you started …

Thank You, God, for making me a part of Your masterpiece.

Thank you, Lord Jesus, for Your hand in every detail of me. Today, I say thank you for my nose and my toes. In You, there is no error. Thank You for trusting me with good works, and thank You for thinking of me long ago.

For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.” Ephesians 2:10 (NLT)

Dear God, Thank You for making me a new creation.

Oh Jesus how I love a fresh, new shirt that’s never been worn. No stains or wrinkles or frayed edges. Thank you for making me new, for taking away the old and refreshing me, forming me complete. Clean. Beautiful.

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away, and look, new things have come.” 2 Corinthians 5:17 (HCSB)

Thank You, God, for purchasing me so that I am not my own.

Humbly, Lord, I praise You for all that I am. I see myself through Your sacrifice, Jesus, and I rejoice that I am loved so perfectly, so boldly, so completely. Thank You for this life that is not mine, but Yours. Thank you for this body to use for Your glory.

You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.” 1 Corinthians 6:19b-20 (NIV)

As I watched my daughter celebrate herself, I prayed in that moment, “Lord, may she always see herself through Your eyes.”

Then I whispered, “And may I see myself through Your eyes, too.” Will you whisper this prayer, too?

I will offer You my grateful heart, for I am Your unique creation, filled with wonder and awe.
    You have approached even the smallest details with excellence;
    Your works are wonderful;
I carry this knowledge deep within my soul.” Psalm 139:14 (VOICE)

Happy Thanksgiving, friend.
