You’ll Never Believe Who I Met {and a special giveaway!}

A special Hi to my friends joining us from Encouragement for Today. I’m so glad you’re here! See below for all of the details about the t-shirt giveaway.

I couldn’t believe it. It was her! I had whispered a prayer a time or two and told God how I’d love to talk to her, but to be honest it felt like a long shot. When all of a sudden, there she stood, right in front of me at a writer’s conference.

From what I knew about her she had followed God’s call to write and speak, but also homeschooled a large family. Since I felt like a juggler – who drops all her pins on most days – I thought for sure this gal had insight that could help me. I wanted to pick her brain.

I seized my opportunity and we chatted for a time. I asked all my questions and she graciously engaged me. As our conversation closed an accomplished author, speaker and ministry leader approached us. My new friend told me she needed to speak to this woman. I said, “Of course!” and went on my way to grab a seat before the next session.

I walked up and down the aisle searching for a seat. As I scanned the room for an empty chair I noticed the woman I’d been talking to scanning the room, too. I could tell she was looking for someone. Her eyes showed intensity. She walked aisle by aisle wholeheartedly searching for someone.

Then the crazy thought crossed my mind, Could she be looking for me?

I’m just another face in the crowd.

When I dared to think this woman looked for me, I picked up my pace. If she searched for me, I wanted to be found! Seat or no seat, conference or no conference, this jumped to the top of my list of priorities.

As I neared her, she locked eyes with me and made a bee-line my way. She was, in fact, looking for me. She wanted to finish our conversation.

There’s no way my words meant that much to her. But her gracious Spirit refused to let me feel second-rate. She went on a hunt to find me.

Jesus came looking, too.

And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.” John 1:14 (ESV)

In John chapter 1, we find Jesus in His rightful place of honor and glory with God in Heaven. But the deeper we read into this chapter, the more absurd and unexplainable this story becomes. Because Jesus chose to leave. Leave everything. Leave Heaven, His Father, the chorus of angels, the beauty and glory of a place untainted by sin. The brilliance of His own glory …

Jesus emptied Himself of it all, because of you and me.

He set aside His exalted place to seek and to save you and me. King of kings. All creation shouts His praise, and yet, He came looking for us.

As we pause this week to remember Jesus’ death and resurrection, let’s also pause to consider, do I notice Jesus’ pursuit of me? Or does something else distract me from His eyes?

He wants to talk to you! And I pray that as we seek and spend time with Jesus our awe of His love ignites your Spirit and compels us to speak of Him to someone else.

I know you’re wondering who the woman is, but to be honest, I don’t think she’d want me to tell you. Because I bet she just wants to be like Jesus and wants others to be like Him, too. Which explains why her actions looked so much like Jesus, and why I’m telling you about it now. Her life told His story.

Lord Jesus, I pray my life will tell Your story, too.

  1. Loved the reminder that we are not second-rate. Thank you!

One place I’d wear the shirt is to some of the Canada’s 150th celebrations. We get to go in free to the parks and historic sites.
I’d also like to wear it out walking or volunteering somewhere.

Thank you for your blog post!

  2. I look forward to my Proverbs 31 Ministries emails every day… They arrive anywhere from midnight to three a.m. Sometimes I wake up during the delivery to my phone and no matter how sleepy I may be, I always find peace in reading the inspirational stories and cannot just lay the phone back down.

There have been so many times that I have wondered if I was the only one who thought the way I thought; the only one who felt so incredibly uplifted after a deep conversation about faith and love and Jesus. Reading these stories reminds me of just how important it is to share our own walks with Jesus with those around us, whether it be a tale of heartache or a tale of happiness, we all end the story with the same tone: rejoice. Rejoice in His grace, His mercy, His unfailing love; the light He sheds on our lives and the comfort only He can wrap us in.

I thank not only you, but the countless others as well that have been an inspiration to spread our stories and share the love we know, the love we trust, the love we receive from Jesus.

I pray that I have touched hearts. That I will touch hearts with the story of my walk back to Jesus. The story of finding him there waiting for me so patiently, filling my heart with love once again… Rejoicing that He never gives up on us. Feeling the eternal gratefulness that I hold for what He did for us and praying that every single one of us learns to be more like Him every day.

Bless you all and Happy Easter!

  74. Jesus is The King of Kings and The lord of Lords. He is the author and finisher of our faith. He stepped down from is heavenly throne to become a man. When I think about what Jesus accomplished on the cross through His death I cannot help but think about what He accomplished through his life as well. We know that he healed the sick, raised, the dead, and cast out devils. Praise be to God! But He did more than that. Jesus knows what we face each day. He is not a high priest who cannot be touched by our infirmities. he knows well how we feel and the things we face because he also faced many of the very things we do. he knows what it is to be hated, and reviled; forsaken by those who are supposed to love us. He knew hunger and what it is to be tired. Imagine, if you will that God came here and walked in our shoes. He identifies with us on so many levels. He became a man and yet was and is God. Jesus feels our pain and suffering not only because he is God but also because he has “been there and done that.” I am so comforted knowing that Jesus knows everything that I face and that He and I have a personal connection, a relationship; a fellowship that surpasses all others. I am so thankful and mindful that Jesus truly knows me and still loves me. I am walking in the finished work of Christ. Praise be to God!

  99. Thank you so much for this blog. I so often feel like “that special girl” would never talk to me. So thank you for helping us remember we are each special and have gifts to bless each other.
I would love to wear this shirt at my job, in a public school. I would not have to say a word. Our young people so need to be reminded they are created for a greater purpose, and that they are worthy of love.

  100. I would wear this shirt everywhere but especially to work which is a high school! The more people I could get to ask about it the better!

  101. Currently, I am a stay-at-home mom who doesn’t get much opportunity to get out of the house. We are temporary having to share my parent’s car, while getting a new motor & other various parts & work done on ours. So, my husband does most everything needed when he gets picked up from work. When I do manage to get out & about, it is majority of the time just a trip to our local Walmart. (No local Target =( , lol!) We do, however, live in a friendly, “tight-knit”, neighborhood with a group of several houses whose residents are all related. We have been “adopted” as part of their family. So, other than venturing out to Walmart, I would wear it while at home & around the “neighborhood”. (Kind of awkward to give it that term, considering we live out in the country, country. Haha)

    1. I’d wear my shirt to an FCA meeting. I’m the leader of FCA at our high school, a place where the kids really need to see Jesus actually lived out in our lives. It’s a calling I’m not sure I’m prepared for, but I’m doing it. Some days I’m doing it by loving my husband well in front of these kids (he teaches their science class); some days it’s by being gracious to the principal even when I don’t feel like it; and some days it’s by showing up early to have a devotion.

  102. I would wear it everywhere! Grocery store, church, daughter’s dance class, etc 🙂

  103. Thank you for the reminder that Jesus pursues us! I fail daily at pursuing him as I should. Its so nice to know that he never stops seeking after us. I live in tshirts & yogas so I would wear this shirt pretty much every where! (i.e. Grocery store, my kids school, etc)

  104. Love your story! I agree, I don’t believe that special someone would want to be revealed.

The shirt would be a lovely conversation starter! I would wear it to the grocery store, people tend to be friendly there and may ask what the shirt means.

    Thanks for the great story!

  105. I would love to win this shirt! I would wear it anywhere I go o show the world that their is joy in serving the Lord!

  106. I feel that i would need to wear this t-shirt daily 🙂 – as a reminder to myself (when unexpected storms of life come that I still remember to react in a laughing manner rather than flipping out or trying to solve things myself and to develop a solid discipline of fully trusting God). And I feel the ”she laughs” logo on the t-shirt can be a good conversation starter with anyone- strangers on the streets or at friends’ hangouts. Would love to own one of those! 🙂

  107. Hello ! I have enjoyed reading your devotionals for quite some time now. I have now built a relationship with my mother-in-law and what a gift that is. I can honestly say it was from encouragement from your words and Jesus. What a beautiful gift!!!

I would wear my t-shirt to the supermarket and sporting events!

    Happy Easter

  108. I am a grandmother turned nanny & housekeeper to a daughter and small children who have undergone a horrendous divorce. I would wear the shirt as I travel around an unfamiliar city doing daily household chores and chauffeuring the children. I am also a recent breast cancer patient. I would love the opportunity to share with those I come in contact with the grace and perfect plan of Jesus.

  109. There is no other feeling like it…when words from Scripture pierce your heart (in an impossibly wonderful way) and envelop all of who you are!
The words you have included in the prayer that come from Ephesians 3:19 have been the cry of my heart so often lately!! Somehow though, what I’ve been searching for was given immediate clarity by “so I can know with confidence when you speak to me personally”
I have been listening for His voice about the direction to take with my fledgling handcrafting business. I would be so pleased to wear this t-shirt to the next “local business LIFT mixer” to grow my business and glorify God at the same time…YES!!

  110. Katy, your writings always speak deeply into my heart! I’m so thankful I found your blog. Laughter is such an important part of my day as a wife and mother and caregiver for my husband who has Stage 4 cancer. I would wear the tshirt on my daily walks as a reminder to me to share my smile and story with those who I meet along the way! Thank you!

  111. I would wear this at the park where I take my three little ones and have an opportunity to tell His story.

  112. I would love to give this to my daughter who struggles with health problems. She writes verses and draws to get through it all. She designed a card recently and gave it to me, and it was Proverbs 31:25. She would love to wear this around campus and I would love to surprise her with it.

  113. I will wear my shirt proudly at kid pick up after school! There are some parents there who need a smile and a laugh!

  114. Felt so encouraged after reading the reminder that Jesus knows my name and has always pursued me. I would wear the adorable shirt to the gym, my boy’s sporting events, grocery store…anywhere for others to see and inquire about the verse.

  115. The one place I will wear my T-shirt most of all is the infusion room where I receive my chemo treatments. There is no better place to share the love of God than with those of us who have been chosen for “special assignments” as we call them. We give hope and extend a hand of friendship to anyone who wants and we hope our light shines bright enough that they will want to be a child of God right alongside of us. Thank you so much for what you do. Amen and be blessed.

  116. Laughter is a gift from the Lord. I love to laugh. Laughter seems to brighten up everyone’s day. I would the share the shirt at our church’s resale shop which is known as the Cottage Shop. It would be a conversation piece and brighten up everyone’s day.

  117. I love that shirt! I would wear it when I’m out and about, running errands or volunteering to hopefully strike a conversation with a stranger. I think it’s a good conversation starter! One where I could tell someone where my happiness and joy and laughter comes from. ❤

  118. I would wear it to the grocery store. I’ve worn other shirts there & have been stopped by other shoppers what my shirt means. ????

  119. I would wear this t-shirt all over New Hampshire….we need some good inspiration after our long winter. 🙂

  120. LOVE IT!!! I would wear this t shirt to family outings to encourage others and start the conversation about Our Wonderful Savior!!!! Thanks so much for the encouragement I just love it!! As women we need this!!!! GOD BLESS YOU ALL!

  121. I’d wear the t-shirt when I take my son to his twice yearly endocrinology appointments. Wearing this shirt would remind me that God’s still in control and has a plan for us, and that we can be happy in knowing that this is just our temporary home.

  122. I love this post – so encouraging with so much truth! I would wear this shirt basically anywhere! However, the Lord has given me the wonderful opportunity to serve Him in South Africa this summer where I will be teaching four-year olds, but also ministering to young ladies and the community around me. This shirt would be one that I would wear anywhere in S. Africa! It would be a great conversation starter, but the same is true of here in the U.S.

Thank you for your service to our King!

  123. Thank you for the beautiful devotion! I would wear the t- shirt as much as possible to share the wonderful message on it!

  124. A weary soul in need of encouragement. Thank you for your words. I would wear this shopping, to school, hanging out with my children, family, and friends.

Please pray for peace, strength, courage, wisdom, and compassion for this broken mama today. Thank you.

  125. My grown daughter would love this t-shirt! She sounds so much like you in your daily struggles. I can see her proudly wearing this shirt everywhere she goes! …….especially to the elementary school where she helps out a lot and tries to be an inspiration to the teachers and staff.

  126. oh I would love this shirt!! a couple of years ago (literally right before I found out I was pregnant for the first time) God revealed to me a double meaning of the “she laughs” verse. I wrote this in a Facebook status about it –

“I am convinced, when Solomon wrote about the woman who fears the Lord in Proverbs 31, and he describes her as being able to laugh at the future; He was taking into account the joy filled belly laughs that come with deep confidence in God, and the nervous, almost cry laugh you do when you have ZERO confidence in a situation, but know that God is at the helm anyway. Both laughs are God honoring and point to His faithfulness in our lives. So laugh today! Whatever you’re going through! Even if it ends in tears – laugh a little knowing God has you!”

Ever since then, especially through the overflowing joy and overflowing anxieties of new motherhood, I’m glad for this reminder!!

  127. I ❤ this devotional. Thank you for sharing. I’d wear the shirt to my daughter’s therapy days and to storytime at the library.

  128. I would wear it everywhere! Gym, cancer center, store, park etc of course when it’s clean lol but it’s a beautiful shirt ❤️❤️
