When You Don’t Have the Strength to Go On

| |

We fell sick this week.

All of us. From the youngest to the oldest. We all found ourselves, at one point or another, fighting a stomach bug.

By God’s grace I nursed each child to health before the bug settled in my stomach. After a long day of work, Luke walked in to find me, a cup and a cold cloth huddled in bed together.

The sickness took me into the night then calmed long after sunset, so I could shut my eyes. I woke the next morning to the comforting sound of my husband’s voice as he encouraged me to try and get up.

As I sat up, Luke could see how weak I was from a long night of struggle. So he offered me his hand to help me stand.

But he didn’t stop there. One step at a time as I tried to walk, he held me.

With his strong arms attached to mine, He almost lifted me off the ground. Maybe I could have done it alone, but he wasn’t willing to wait and see. He was there. He cared. He loved me. So he took his strength and with it, strengthened me.

Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be afraid, for I am your God. I will strengthen you; I will help you; I will hold on to you with My righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10 (HCSB)

Along our journey we will find days … even seasons … of life that are hard. Times we fear we lack the strength to carry on. But though our flesh may fail us, and rest assured it will, if we have Jesus we have all we need for the next step.

So I take pleasure in weaknesses, insults, catastrophes, persecutions, and in pressures, because of Christ. For when I am weak, then I am strong.” 2 Corinthians 12:10 (HCSB)

Jesus’ strong arms will not just help us to our feet, in His arms we find strength for each step forward. With His gentle, yet firm, grip He encases us in all He is. And with every step we take with Him, our confidence and trust in Him grows.

Friend, if you are facing a foe greater than you today, I pray you see your Savior’s face in front of you. I pray you hear His comforting voice beckoning you to continue on with Him, yet never asking you to do it alone.

Jesus is there. He cares for you, and He loves you.

For now, it appears we’ve squashed the stomach bug. I’m so thankful our seasons of struggle don’t last forever. But more than that, I’m thankful I have a Savior stronger than me to lean on, no matter what I face.

If this is the first time you’re hearing about Jesus, but today you’d like to know more, all you have to do is ask. Turn to Him, releasing your life to Him …

If you made that decision for the first time today … you gotta tell somebody!! It’s a day for celebration! If you made that decision a long time ago, maybe someone you know needs to hear about the strength you have in Christ. Consider sharing His love with a friend.
