Here’s Your Chance

They’re so beat up.

Tears, cuts, scars. Daily his little toes endure some kind of pain. Mostly because my adventurous 2-year old loves to shed his shoes. He wanders around barefoot. Leaving his soles uncovered and vulnerable to whatever he encounters.

Rocks poke. Sticks slice. Uneven sidewalks rip holes in his tender skin.

As much as it pains me to see him hurt, at the end of the day I know it’s his choice. We have the shoes to cover his soles. He just chooses to go without them.

But some, in fact lots, don’t have the choice. They walk each day uncovered. Nothing to shield them from the dangers. So as I slipped on my favorite pair of shoes I thought …

First off, I love these shoes.

I bought them at least five years ago, maybe longer, which makes me love them even more. They’ve stood the test of trends! They work just about all year long in the deep south. They go with just about anything. And they’re somewhat comfortable – for heels. I still get compliments from total strangers when I wear them. These are good shoes.

But as I wiggled my toes down to the peep hole and smiled about my wise investment the words rang in my heart … My accessory is someone else’s necessity. A necessity they don’t have.

I heard a statistic that if you own two pairs of shoes or more you’re one of the richest people in the world. I own more than two pairs of shoes. You?

So I thought about all the uncovered soles in the world. And I wonder if their souls are bare, too. I wonder if the beating their soles take each day is nothing compared to the soul that longs to see God’s love meet a need.

Want to do something about it?

This month, the entire month of October, let’s cover these soles. For every comment left on my blog posts starting today and running all the way through October 31, one pair of shoes will go to one soul around the world! Orphans in Africa. Homeless in Louisiana. Men, women, boys and girls who need covered soles.

And as we cover their soles, I believe God’s love will cover their souls. Cover them with His surprising, perfect love that sees their every need and reaches across computers and keyboards to meet them. Here’s how you can get involved:

#1: Share a comment. Today, I’d love to hear about your favorite pair of shoes! You don’t have to be poetic or write an e-book, just tell us about the shoes you love to wear. Your comment sends a pair of shoes to a soul who needs them and connects your fingertips to their feet!

#2: Spread the news. Invite your Facebook friends or email list to join us in our “Got It Covered” campaign. Tweet about it #gotitcovered or pin the graphic and let so many others in on this blessing.

#3: Soak these souls in prayer. Each time you visit this blog or put on your shoes, pray for one soul God will touch through “Got It Covered.”

I’m thrilled to take this adventure with you. I pray God uses you and me to take His light all over the world … even with just a few simple clicks on a keyboard.

Subscribe to my blog via email (box at the top of the right hand column) to be sure you don’t miss a post and an opportunity to be a part of the “Got It Covered” campaign!

Β So, let’s hear it! Do you have a favorite pair of shoes?!

  1. Good morning Katy. My favorite shoes are the ones the good Lord gave me, I like Boo Boo love to go without! But after reading your words they gave me a feeling of shame for I too have more or should I say many more than two pair. Some days I even say to myself I can’t wear this because I don’t have any shoes to wear with it! I also have several pair that I never wear, or have ever worn and a few pairs that I should take to goodwill but think I just might need them someday. Your words touch my heart and have impressed upon my soul that its time to go through my shoes and my clothes so they can benefit someone else instead of hanging around wearing out while not being worn. Love and miss you all! Mrs Lesle

  2. FLIP FLOPS! They need to have some sort of height or sparkles to them though πŸ™‚ This is a wonderful idea Katy! It really made me think about how fortunate we are and how I can be more generous with what God has given to us! Thanks for the reminder that we are called to give to others!

  18. Two things I ask of you ,O Lord; do not refuse me before I die: Keep falsehood and lies far from me; give me neither poverty nor riches, but give me only my daily bread. Otherwise, I may have too much and disown You and say, Who is the Lord? Or I may become poor and steal, and so dishoner the name of my God.
    Proverbs 30:7-9
